Good News for Inflation-Stricken Citizens: Electricity Prices Likely to Decrease Nationwide

KARACHI – In a major relief for citizens burdened by rising inflation and poverty, electricity prices across Pakistan may be reduced in the upcoming fiscal year.

According to sources, the Power Division has submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for a uniform tariff structure, which is scheduled for hearing on July 1, 2025. The proposal suggests a reduction of Rs 1.16 per unit in the basic electricity tariff for domestic consumers.

As per the submitted proposal, the maximum domestic tariff is expected to drop from Rs. 48.84 to Rs. 47.69 per unit.

For Lifetime consumers:

  • Up to 50 units: The tariff will remain at Rs. 3.95 per unit.
  • 51 to 100 units: The tariff will remain at Rs 7.74 per unit.

For protected domestic users:

  • Up to 100 units: A decrease of Rs. 1.15 per unit, making it Rs. 10.54 per unit.
  • 101 to 200 units: Proposed tariff is Rs. 13.01 per unit.

For non-protected users consuming up to 100 units, the tariff will be Rs. 22.44 per unit.

Additional proposed reductions include:

  • 101–200 units: Rs 1.16 decrease to Rs 28.91 per unit
  • 201–300 units: Rs 1.16 decrease to Rs 33.10 per unit
  • 301–400 units: Rs 1.16 decrease to Rs 37.99 per unit
  • 401–500 units: Rs. 1.14 decrease to Rs. 40.22 per unit
  • 501–600 units: Rs 1.16 decrease to Rs 41.62 per unit
  • 601–700 units: Rs 1.16 decrease to Rs 42.76 per unit
  • Above 700 units: Rs 1.05 decrease to Rs 47.69 per unit

It is worth mentioning that NEPRA had earlier approved a Rs. 1.50 per unit reduction in electricity’s base tariff for the upcoming fiscal year and forwarded the decision to the federal government to ensure uniform implementation nationwide.
